Assessing Risk in
Our Supply Chain

No matter which of our tea brands you love, we believe that every cup of tea should be something you can feel good about. That’s why we’re investing in programmes that help reduce environmental impact and strengthen livelihoods in our tea communities.

We carefully check where our tea comes from by looking at the countries and farms that supply us; which means understanding the type of challenges workers might face whether unsafe conditions or unfair treatment; and spotting any environmental risks, like deforestation or pollution.

A smarter
responsive approach

Our risk assessment process goes beyond static checklists. We use a dynamic system that prioritises human rights and environmental sustainability, allowing us to proactively identify and address risks. This includes serious issues like forced labour, child labour, discrimination, and unsafe working conditions, as well as environmental concerns such as climate impact and land degradation.

We’ve partnered with independent experts to map our supply chain and gain a clearer independent picture of where our products come from and what risks may exist. Our approach aligns with internationally recognised principles like the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights.

Collaboration and
continuous improvement

When risks are identified, we don’t just flag them we seek action. We work closely with our suppliers to build solutions and offer training support if needed. We also make regular visits to farms and facilities to check in and support progress. Our goal is to do as much as possible to ensure workers are safe, respected, and heard.

Transparency matters

As part of our commitment to transparency and responsible sourcing, we are part of Sedex: a global solutions provider for ethical and sustainable supply chain management. The Sedex platform enables us to share data securely with both customers and suppliers, helping us identify risks, track improvements, and demonstrate compliance with international standards.

While we work hard to identify and address risks, we recognise that no system can eliminate them entirely. Even with strong mitigation measures in place, challenges will persist. What matters is our commitment to staying informed, remaining vigilant, and trusting our supply chain partners to work with us and others across the industry to drive continual improvement.

We truly believe that this shared responsibility is key to building a more ethical and sustainable future for tea.
